2017 Summer Solstice
108 Sun Salutations
Thursday 21 December 2017
7.00 pm – 9.00 pm
Sellicks Beach Chapel
This was another amazing event. Thank you to all the participants, we raised over $800 for WaterAid and had a fantastic evening with a beautiful sunset. We hope to see you again next year!
Join Jem and Yaisa for a fun and deep honouring of the sun as it sets after its longest rise of the year, by practicing 108 Sun Salutations. Last year over 60 people joined us in this magical event. All levels are welcome.
This day prepares us for deep transformation as we open ourselves to receive the last sun rays of the day in all their glorious frequencies.
We celebrate by flowing through Sun Salutations and give value to sunshine and shadow, light and darkness, activity and rest, work and play in order to create balance in our movements and within ourselves.
The best part is, every dollar will be donated to WaterAid Australia. Just in time to spread the love for the Christmas Holidays.
We begin the event with a short guided meditation to set the scene. Then we warm up to enter the practice of the 108 sun salutations feeling open and energised. We finish with a few gentle yoga stretches to cool down and your choice to finish the night with a seated meditation facing the sunset or lay in savasana for a well deserved relaxation.
Practice to suit your own abilities, slow down or rest as you need. We give instructions before the start of the 108 sun salutations so that all levels of practitioners, even total beginners, can join the fun and enjoy a safe practice.
The number 108 carries a special significance in many cultures. Just to mention a few; there are 108 sutras in the Yoga Sutras. There are 108 different names for Shiva and Buddha and 108 beads on a mala. The average distance of the Sun and the Moon to Earth is 108 times their respective diameters. The diameter of the Sun is 108 times the diameter of the Earth. There are said to be a total of 108 energy lines converging to form the heart chakra. And there are 108 cards in an Uno deck.
Whatever this day or the number 108 means to you, come join us for a wonderful evening of inspiration and fun. We supply light nibbles and tea after if you want to stay and have a chat.
